Celia Faye Deer (1930 – 2021)

Faye Deer was born in Edmonton to Eric and Ann Smith. She married Art Deer in 1956 and they raised their family of four children in several northern communities. They moved permanently to Whitehorse in 1963 and for many years Faye worked at the Whitehorse Public Library. Faye was a good athlete when she was young, and she competed in the 2004 Senior Olympics in javelin and shot put. She also enjoyed painting, ceramics, doll making, and quilting and was a founding member of the Yukon Arts Society. Art and Faye were Mr. and Mrs. Yukon in 2006.1)
