Harry Dundas (d. 1898)

Harry Dundas was a member of the North-West Mounted Police stationed in the Yukon during the gold rush.1) He came into the Yukon in June 1897 from Troop G at Fort Saskatchewan.2) Corporals Green, Cater, and Dundas were sent to the mouth of the Stewart River in July 1898 to form a detachment. One of their duties was to receive and distribute mail.3) Dundas contracted typhoid fever at the Stewart post. He was a popular man and his fellow officers stayed up with him day and night until he died. He was scheduled to go out of the Yukon that summer.4) Harry Dundas was buried with military honours in August 1898. A procession formed at the Dawson barracks and moved to the graveyard on the hill.5)
