Herbert Davies (1888 – 1918)

Herbert Davies was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to parents Herbert Wynne and Rose Agnes Bradshaw Davies. He started with the CPR in the baggage department on the wharves in Victoria and then worked as steward on the boats SS Princess Adelaide and the SS Tees./ He and Ellen Beatrice “Nellie” Ramsdale married in 1914 and they had a home in Victoria. In 1918, Herbert Davies was working for White Pass & Yukon Route as a purser on the sternwheeler Dawson. He was living in Skagway and Ellen was visiting, deciding to stay in the north until Herbert was finished work at the end of the season.1) She worked in the law office of F. T. Congdon. Herbert and Nellie died when the Princess Sophia sank in the Lynn Canal that fall.2)
