Alex Envolsen
Axel Envolsen was an old miner who often bragged about his money, kept in a money belt he wore day and night. Barney West, a “slightly simple” butcher's boy, had a weakness for whiskey. He attempted to rob Envolsen one night and, when the old man woke up, hit him with a black-jack and killed him. West was tried and hung in Dawson. Mrs. Kathleen Wheeler remembered him as a gentle man.1)
