Kristina Erickson

Kristina Erickson was born in Sweden and came to the Yukon in 1925 after marrying John Olaf Erickson. They bought the Regina Hotel and Kristina enjoyed the long winters and quiet years when they had to spend time with friends and make their own fun. The had electricity but the hotels had to put in their own running water. The hotel guests were usually miners and workers on the riverboats. Sometimes the miners came without any money for food and rooms and it might take three or four months and sometimes years before they would send the money they owed. There was a lot of trust in those days. Olaf died in 1974, and their son John took over a large majority of the workload in running the hotel. In 1975, their daughter Gudrun lived in Vancouver.1)
