Robert H. “Bob” Ennis (1854 - 1923)

Robert Ennis was born in Ontario.1) He was the chief scout for General Middleton during the Riel rebellion.2) Robert and his brother Dave Ennis came to the Yukon in 1896 and the 1902 Dawson Daily News Golden Clean-Up edition reported the brothers and Billy Moss camped at the mouth of Gold Run in February 1898. They prospected and staked claims and eventually settled on No. 6 Gold Run Creek.3) Robert Ennis married Hattie, originally from Nova Scotia and they had a daughter Gladys. Robert owned Claim No 3 on 43 Pup, a tributary of Gold Run.4) Ennis and his wife and daughter had a home in Dawson in 1901. Hattie and Gladys moved to Vancouver in 1911.5)

Ennis was engaged in mining, prospecting and hunting in the Klondike for twenty years. He mined on Gold Run until ill health forced him into the hospital.6) He made his home at or near Granville, fifty miles from Dawson. He took ill several weeks before his death from gangrene, resulting from diabetes.7) Ennis was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers. He is buried in the 8th Avenue Pioneer Cemetery.8)
