John Fraser

Although there had been prospectors on the Stewart River before them, John Fraser and Thomas Boswell were the first to do any mining on the river, and this was in May 1885. They made about seven thousand dollars each during that summer. In 1886, there were about a hundred men on the Stewart and about $75,000 was taken out.1)
