Lyle McNaughton “Mickey” Fisher (1940 - 2021)

Mickey Fisher was born in Bearberry, Alberta to parents Eunice and George Fisher. He moved to Watson Lake to join his sister Shirley Charchuk and worked for Yukon Electric, ran a taxi company, and eventually became the town manager. He and Marjorie Cole married and had two daughters, Adrian and Lila. Mickey built a fly-in cabin on Meister Lake where the family spent vacations. The family moved to Whitehorse in 1982 and Fisher was elected to the Legislative Assembly, representing Lake Laberge for the Yukon Party, from 1992 to 1996. He was appointed to the cabinet and served as a minister in the Ostashek government for Renewable Resources, Community and Transportation Services, Yukon Housing Corporation, Economic Development, and Health and Social Services. 1) Fisher lost the 1996 election by three votes to NDP Doug Livingston. Livingston was a former school principal, and he outraged Yukoners by making an unannounced move to the United States early in his mandate. 2) Mickey and Marjie owned several small businesses including a small market garden and a wood cutting business. They lived in Stewart, BC and Faro and, after Marjie died in 2010, Mickey moved back to Whitehorse. 3)
