Doug Gallup (1944 – 2013)

Doug Gallup was born in Calgary and was adopted as an infant. He was raised on a farm in Rosemary, Alberta. He left home early and worked in Manitoba and the NWT before settling in the Yukon in early 1960s. He worked at odd jobs before starting Gallup Construction, installing vinyl siding, in the 1970s.(Meagan Gillmore, “City bids farewell to Doug Gallup.” Yukon News (Whitehorse), 5 April 2013.)) Gallup was a volunteer firefighter with the Whitehorse Fire Department in the 1970s. He was elected to the Whitehorse City Council for four consecutive terms from 1984 to 1994. After his last term, he remained a vocal proponent for Whitehorse citizens and appeared before Council on a variety of issues.1)
