Ernest Edward Glorney (1887 – 1916)
Ernest Edward Glorney was born in Rathmines, Ireland. After graduating from Columbia University in New York he attended the Royal School of Mines in South Kensington, England. He was a mining engineer for Yukon Gold Company from April 1911 to October 1912. When he enlisted to serve in the First World War in 1916, he was working in Siam [Tailand], Southeast Asia. He joined the Royal Flying Corp as a 2nd Lieutenant and then graduated as a pilot. He joined the 45th Squadron in France and flew missions over the Somme. He crashed in Kent while ferrying a plane to France and is buried in Deans Grange Cemetery in Blackrock, County, Dublin.1)
