Gene Garrow

Gene Garrow was the founder of the Yukon Fish and Game Association in 1945. Garrow was an American working for the United States Corps of Engineers on the Canol Road. It was common policy not to allow First Nation people into social organizations, and a motion was passed to change this as Garrow had First Nation ancestry. A motion was also passed to allow women full membership. The first president of the organization was G. R. Bidlake, vice president was F.H.R. Jackson, and the secretary treasurer was W. D. MacBride. Membership numbered 148 within twelve months of the initial meeting. The association lobbied for changes to the fish and game regulations.1)
