George Allen Gould (1922 - 2000)

Allen Gould was born in St. Mary's Hospital in Dawson, the third son of Robert and Mabel Gould. His siblings were Bob, John (Madeleine), William (Doreen), Sid, and Lenore Wicks (Jack). Allen spent the first two to three years on Nugget Hill where his father mined. The family moved into Dawson in 1924 and to Burnaby in 1933. Allen came back to Dawson in 1939 and went to work for Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp (YCGC). He joined the Seaforth Highlanders in Vancouver in 1944 and went to France to serve in the Second World War. He met Jean Knight, also in the Army, in Vancouver and they were married in 1944. After the war, he and Jean went to Dawson and Allen worked for YCGC on No. 11 dredge at Hunker Creek. He also worked in the Gold Room and in the Black Smith Shop at Bear Creek. After YCGC shut down, Allen got a job in the Post Office and he was postmaster when he retired. He was a life member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers and the Legion. Allen and Jean had a son, David (Linda), and a daughter, Diane (John Wierda).1)
