Joseph Gergich
Joseph Gergich and Tom Spritzer staked the Discovery Claim on Clear Creek in the Stewart River district. The discovery started a rush and there was lots of mining work done until 1908. In 1931, the partners staked a new discovery near the forks and caused another small rush. There were many small mining operations working on the creek over the years. In the 1930s, Gergich had claims on Clear Creek and lived on the property. He would go into Mayo once a year for supplies. He sold his property to Clear Creek Dredging Company sometime in the 1930s.1)
