Rudolph Frank Giametto (d. 2009)
Rudy Giametto was born in Kriens, Switzerland. His mother came to Dawson in 1951 to visit a friend and returned in 1953 with Rudy. He worked at Elsa for a time and in 1956 found work with Yukon Consolidated Gold Corp (YGCG), in the Bear Creek Gold Room and then as a carpenter. He rose to become carpenter foreman in 1959 and continued with the company until they closed in 1966. In 1956, he was joined by Rosemarie, his high school sweetheart. She flew to Dawson as the ice bridges were not in at Carmacks, Pelly, and Stewart Crossing. They were married in St. Mary's by Father Poullet with best man Otto Blattler, also from Kriens.1)
The Giamettos lived in a company house on the Bear Creek island. Other relatives came to visit and then stayed: Rudy's mother, Marie Giametto, his sister Yolande Burkhard in 1953, and his cousin Pia Blattler in 1961. When YCGC closed, the Giamettos moved to British Columbia where Rudy worked for Artek Office Furniture. He was Production Manager for twenty-five years until he retired.2)
