Alex Hare (1927 – 2014)

Alex Hare was born in Mayo to Bill and Nora Hare and grew up on Dublin Gulch with his parents. He moved to Dawson as a young man. One of his many jobs was lead hand on a cat train putting in the right-of-way for the Dempster Highway and there are photos of him displayed at Eagle Plains. He and wife Connie moved to Whitehorse and then Fort Nelson where Alex worked as an operator and mechanic on the highway along Muncho Lake and around Fort Nelson and Alexis Creek. When Alex retired, he got his pilot's license. His first plane was a Cessna Skyhawk followed by a 1946 Luscombe. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren number ninety-one.1)
