Duncan William Halkett (b. 1872)

Duncan Halkett was born in Scotland. He was a miner near Dawson in July 1916 when he enlisted to serve in the First World War.¹⁾ Private Halkett joined the 321st Battalion, D. Company. He owned creek claim No 5 on Left Fork of Green Gulch and creek claim No 56 Above on Sulphur Creek. In September 1916 these claims were held free from cancellation for the duration of the war.²⁾ Claim No 56 on Sulphur may have been missed from the exemption as a letter from the Commissioner stated that the claim could still be renewed with a fee of $30 as it was open for location.³⁾ Halkett returned to the Yukon after the war and was a stage driver on the Overland Trail from Whitehorse to Dawson in May 1919.⁴⁾
