Mike Hamilton (b. 1945)

Mike Hamilton was born in North Carolina and graduated from the Colorado School of Mines in Geological Engineering in 1969. He joined Cordilleran Engineering in 1970 and worked primarily on exploration projects in the Yukon until 1977. He worked with Westley Mines Ltd. in Nevada in 1978, then with the Franco Nevada Mining Corp before retiring in Boulder, Colorado. Balon and Hamilton played key roles in the discovery of the Goz Creek zinc deposit northeast of Mayo in 1975, the Logtung tungsten and molybdenum deposit between Swift and Morley rivers in 1976, and the zinc/silver Logan Deposit northwest of Watson Lake in 1979. They also discovered the silver/lead/zinc Silvertip (Midway) deposit in northern British Columbia and zinc/lead deposits at Gayna River in the NWT and at Robb Lake in north-eastern BC. Ed Balon and Mike Hamilton have been inducted into the Yukon Prospectors Hall of Fame in recognition of three discoveries they and others at Cordilleran Engineering made during the 1970s.1)
