Manfred Hoefs (1935 - 2023)
Manfred Hoefs was born in Germany and immigrated to Canada in the 1960s. He worked in northern Manitoba as a surveyor and then studied wildlife biology at university. In 1968, he came to the Yukon as part of a doctoral dissertation on Dall’s sheep with the University of British Columbia. After he received his Ph.D. he worked in the Yukon for the Canadian Wildlife Service and then started a thirty-year career with the Yukon Game Branch. He retired in 2001 and became an independent researcher, photographer, writer, and consultant. He wrote for Swiss and German nature and hunting magazines and his scientific work was published. His book of complied Yukon stories, Of Man and Beast, about adventures on the land was published in 2004.1)
