Hutchi Jackson (~1880 – 1945)

Hutchi Jackson and Lilly Isaac travelled all through the Champagne and Aishihik First Nation traditional territory. Moose Jackson was their son, and he was brought up at Hutchi Village. Before the highway was built, the family travelled north and south to Klukshu in the summer to fish. Hutchi was a good place to live, where you never went hungry and where people from many places gathered. Hutchi Jackson was a young man when outside people started coming into the area. He did not trust rifles and preferred to hunt with a bow and arrow. He was a good log cabin builder and erected quite a few. He was never sick and could run down a moose using snowshoes even when he was old. When he started feeling unwell, he travelled to Champagne, saying it was time to go, and died the next day.1)
