Peter Eric Jensen (1939 – 2010) >

Pete Jensen was born in Salmonhurst, New Brunswick.1) He was of Danish descent. He grew up on a potato farm and kept his love for farming through his life.2)

Jensen moved to the Yukon as a young man and served with the RCMP for ten years.3) He was in Dawson and did not want to be posted outside the Yukon, when he left the Force to start Pete Jensen Outfitting.4)

Frances and Bobby Austin were the first outfitters to set up business on the Dempster Highway. After Bobby’s death, his wife (Frances Woosley) operated for a few years before selling out to Jensen.5) That was about 1964. Pete’s future wife Sharon went to work for Pete as a cook in 1969 and they were married in 1975. Jensen did not guarantee that his clients would shoot something, but he did guarantee that they would have a quality experience. Every year, the Jensen’s hosted a barn dance at their farm near Carmacks where they grew hay and oats and feed for their herd of horses. In 2009 Jensen built an indoor riding stable that the local horse community used and appreciated. Terry and Ruth Wilkinson, of Ceaser Lake Outfitting, nominated Jensen for the Grand Slam Club's 2009 Legend Award. The event was held in Las Vegas and Pete and wife Sharon accepted the award in front of a standing ovation from 2,000 attendees. Pete mentored some young outfitters breaking into the business, and he was well respected by his peers and clients. The Jensens attended the 2010 Grand Slam event and Pete died while they were in Las Vegas.((Chuck Tobin, “Outfitter remembered for integrity.” Whitehorse Daily Star (Whitehorse), 19 March 2010.)
