J. C. Kellum

J.C. Kellum was born in Westport, Missouri and graduated from Harvard University in 1873. He practiced law in Kansas City for twelve years and then moved to Arizona in 1887. He joined the stampede north in 1898 and was associated with Wade, Clark and Wilson, the leading law firm in Dawson. In 1900 he travelled to Nome and settled in Fairbanks in the winter of 1902/03 with the law firm of Claypool, Kellum & Cowles.1) In 1903, Kellum accompanied Judge Wickersham to Circle to help set up law and order and later became a judge.2) He was greatly interested in real estate, was one of the pioneer mining men of the Tanana Valley, and owned rich mining ground.3) Kellum Street in Fairbanks is named for him.4)
