James William Kirk (1864 – 1918)
James Kirk was born in Wentworth, Nova Scotia. He arrived in Dawson in 1898 and had a house there. In 1918, he was travelling to Vancouver accompanying a horse shipment south, on his way to his ranch near Calgary, Alberta. He was a member of the Yukon Order of Pioneers and the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Kirk drowned in 1918 when the Princess Sophia sank in the Lynn Canal.1)
