Margaret Kormendy
Margie Kormendy was born in Bethel, Alaska and is of Yup’ik descent. She has a BA in psychology and sociology and training background in management, administration and finance. She moved to Dawson in 1984. In 1987, she became the band manager for the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation and for seven years oversaw all aspects of the organization. Margie was general manager of Chief Isaac Group of Companies from 2001 to 2020. She is partner/owner of the eco-tourism wilderness camp, Ancient Voices, on the Yukon River and taught a courses for Yukon College and the Yukon Tourism Education Council. After retirement, Margie and husband Peter started a small home-based business creating products for Ancient Voices Natural Products. Margie offers workshops on cultural arts and crafts focussing on traditional skin sewing and traditional medicines.1)
