William L. Kerr (1873-1917)

William Kerr was born in Ireland and was a miner in the Dawson area before he was recruited by George Black for service in the First World War.1) He was a Lance Corporal stationed in England in August 1917.2) He was posted to the 7th Reserve Battalion and promoted to lance corporal. He reverted back to private in June 1917 and landed in France soon after. He joined Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry in the Vimy sector in August. He was reported missing and presumed dead in the Battle of Passchendaele. Private Kerr was awarded the British War Medal and Allied Victory Medal. His name is listed on the Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing in Ypres, Belgium.3)
