G. Albert Lancaster

Albert Lancaster was born in California.¹⁾ He located a Bench Claim on the left limit of Claim No. 2 Eldorado Creek on 3 July 1897. Lancaster started mining with an open cut and this was the first claim located and mined in the White Channel Gravels.²⁾ The sourdoughs laughed because he was not mining in the valley, but Lancaster eventually recovered two hundred thousand dollars in gold from his 100-foot claim. It was after this that the miners understood the course of an old riverbed, high on the hill, was the source of an extremely rich layer of gold.³⁾
