Joseph Laska
Joe Laska mined in the Mayo and Minto Lake area into the 1920s. He was on Johnson Creek starting in 1901. Johnson Creek is a small stream that heads with Highet Creek and flows into the McQuesten River. Early prospectors on the Stewart River explored this creek before the Klondike gold rush. Laska worked for E. Middlecoff on Highet Creek in 1918. In the 1930s, he had a cabin at the summit of Lookout Mountain (Mount Haldane) on the old road and at Minto Bridge. In 1943, he was mining at the head of Highet Creek. Laska had an address at Minto Bridge between the mid-1910s and late 1930s.1)
