Jeane Elizabeth Lassen (b. 1980)

Jeane Lasson was born in Whitehorse to mother Moira Lassen, a weightlifting official. Jeane Lasson is a weightlifter who began lifting weights when she was twelve. In 1995, she won silver at the Canada Winter Games and was awarded the Roland Michener Award presented to presented to participants who exemplified leadership, cooperation and achievement.1) The family went to court so Jeane could qualify in the 1995 Canadian Championships and the 1995 Junior World Championships, the first junior international event for women. She has competed and won many medals at World and University championships. She won bronze at the 2006 World Championships in Santo Domingo. She won gold at the Pan-American Championship in Callao, and was ranked 8th in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Lassen and David Goldstrom commented at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow.2)

Lassen holds a BA in education from McGill University, and a Sports Performance degree from Camosun College. She is a former board member of AthletesCAN, and served on the Development and Education Commission for the International Weightlifting Federation. In 2016, she ran for the Liberal Party in the territorial election and was defeated by the New democratic incumbent.3) Sports Yukon named her female athlete of the year four times.4)

Jeane Lassen was plagued with back injuries through her career and missed being a team alternative for the 2012 Olympics. She retired in 2013 and returned to the Yukon where became the physical literacy coordinator for Sport Yukon.5)
