Jim Light (1928 - 1970)
Jim Light was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Whitehorse with his parents. He was keenly interested in sports and volunteered hours to develop minor hockey. He believed that kids needed opportunities and the encouragement to succeed. He sponsored minor hockey teams and their travel to hockey tournaments. He was the main mover behind the Jim Light Arena that stood on the ground where Sport Yukon and the Jim Light Park is now located. Jim Light was inducted into the Sport Yukon Hall of Fame in 1991 for his contributions to building the spot of hockey in the Yukon.1)
