Peter Lenez (1869 – 1939)
Peter Lenez was born in Belgium and came to the Yukon during the gold rush with “Belgian Joe” Verheist. He mined on the creeks for some years and married a cousin of Big Alex McDonald’s, Miss Helen Chisolson, in 1904. His wife and daughter were drowned in the sinking of the S.S. Sophia. The Whitehorse newspaper understood that Lenez left a considerable estate when he died at Essondale.1)
