Agnes Mills (b. 1936)
Agnes Mills is a Vuntut Gwitchin Elder. She attended a residential school outside her community of Old Crow until she was thirteen. When the school was affected by a wave of tuberculosis, Agnes was sent to a hospital in Aklavik for three years.1)
Agnes has worked to advance the rights of Indigenous people as the National Elder of the Thunderbird Partnership Foundation.2) The Partnership has developed training courses based on cultural strengths and a trauma-informed approach.3) Agnes was the First Nation Elder at the Whitehorse Correctional Centre.4)
Agnes Mills was indicted into the Order of Yukon in 2020.
