Elmer Makela

Elmer Makela mined on Duncan Creek around 1913-14. He built a hand-dug ditch and used 1,500 feet of ten-inch pipe to monitor his ground, but had little recovery. The first mastodon tusk on Duncan Creek was found on his property. Laska had an address at Minto Bridge in the mid-1910s and early 1920s. Makela and Jimmy Scrivener owned the discovery claim at Minto Lake. They sold it to James Scougale who mined it with some success.1)
