Freda Maloof was in Dawson during the Klondike gold rush. She was described in a Dawson newspaper, The Nugget, as a “seductive Greek damsel.” She was charged with indecency for performing a belly dance, a great attraction for the Novelty Theatre. She was prevented from performing twice and told the judge that the dance was a respectable Mohammedan religious dance. She was fined $25.1)
