Hans Maichen
Hans Maichen skied in Watson Lake for nine years before he designed and inspired a group of volunteers to build the first ski hill, tow and chalet. From 1968 to 1982, he volunteered many hours as the ski coach, ran the facility and was president of the Watson Lake Ski Club. He was instrumental in organizing the purchase of a T-bar and designed and fitted a second T-bar on the hill. In 1981, Hans received the Yukon Volunteer of the Year award to recognize his significant contribution to his community. He was inducted in the Sport Yukon Hall of Fame in 1986 for his work in building alpine skiing in Watson Lake.1)
