George McCue

George McCue came into the country in 1887.1) In September 1886, Howard Franklin discovered coarse gold in an area of exposed bedrock on the Fortymile River. He staked a claim about twenty-five miles up from the mouth of the Fortymile at a place that became known as Franklin Bar.2) Franklin mined with two partners, Bill Stewart and George McCue. They located a 1500-foot claim for the three of them and a discovery.3) George McCue signed the founding charter of the Yukon Order of Pioneers at Forty Mile in December 1894.4)
