John A. Mackenzie

John Mackenzie was Tom O' Brien’s partner in the building of the Klondike Mines Railway. He travelled to Dawson in the fall of 1906 to look over the operation. He was a capitalist from San Francisco and believed that the Klondike would still make fortunes for individuals and investors. He dreamed that Klondike Mines Railway would be the first step in a larger transportation system. He and O'Brien secured the franchise for the road, but conflicts delayed the road even after the materials were ordered. Mr. Hawkins later took an interest in promoting the company and finally English capitol took hold of the road and backed the enterprise. Mackenzie left the Yukon in 1900 to engage in mining enterprises in the United States from his headquarters in San Francisco. Mr. Mackenzie was brother to Mrs. Robert Creelman of Dawson City.1)
