J. E. McGrath

In 1889, McGrath and J.H. Turner ascended the Yukon River to Fort Yukon. Turner spent the winter of 1889/90 at Rampart House and McGrath went up to the boundary and stayed there until the spring of 1891. He descended the river and went out at St. Michael. In 1892, a survey party under McGrath confirmed the position of Mt. St. Elias for the United States Coast and Geodesic Survey. Dall's work in 1874 had placed the mountain slightly west of the 141st Meridian which made this peak useful for a boundary marker.1)
