Kenneth MacDonald

Kenneth MacDonald did well at school and at St. Paul's Hostel in Dawson where he helped in the vegetable garden. He was helped by the Church Boy's League and their Bursary Grant. There were forty non status children at the Hostel in 1947, twenty-one boys from six to sixteen but most under twelve. It was thought that the new rector, E. Ronald Stringer, would get the Church Boy's League started again.1)

Dawson school principal A. W. Derrom received a bursary cheque of $158.12 from the Church Boy's League for Kenneth MacDonald for 1947 and 1948. Kenneth was in high school in 1948 and doing well. That summer he worked on the boats to help pay for his books and for pocket money. He wanted to join the Navy. He was a keen sportsman and one of the best hockey players in the Dawson youths from twelve and up. He also loved football and skiing.2)
