David Norton (b. ~1946)

Reverend David Norton served as the Yukon Anglican church’s Indian Ministries Coordinator in the 1980s.1) Norton established St. Simon’s Church, now called the Old Log Church, in Whitehorse in 1984, emphasizing ministry to indigenous congregations.2)

In 2018, David Norton received a 13-year sentence in Ontario for crimes against youth. In 2023, Norton had eight years left on his earlier sentence and was eligible for parole around 2027. In June 2023, Norton was found guilty of two counts each of historical sexual assault, sexual assault, and sexual interference. The charges date from incidents that happened in the Yukon in the 1980s. Judge Cozens sentenced Norton on sexual assault charges alone, and two three-year sentences are to be served concurrently.3)
