F.J. Nicholson

F.J. Nicholson was a doctor in Whitehorse when he started construction on a house in the south end of town.1) Dr. Nicholson was the superintendent of the Whitehorse Hospital. His house is now known as the Mast House, at 209 Elliot Street. In the early half of the 20th century, it was known as the Doctor’s House as it housed many doctors and their offices over the years.2)

In 1998, the Yukon Historical and Museums Association (YHMA) initiated a letter-writing program to save the historic house and the City of Whitehorse and its advisory committee were in support of the concept. Unfortunately, a historic preservation program was never developed. In September 1998, the Mast House was saved by a private buyer although it had to be moved five blocks from its original location.3)
