Gina Nagano

Gina Nagano was born in Dawson and is a Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in citizen of the Wolf Clan. She served twenty-one years with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and retired as a Sergeant. In 2006, she started work with the Department of Justice Canada as the Northern Regional Coordinator for the Indigenous Justice Directorate’s Indigenous Justice Strategy. She helped develop community-based justice programs with territorial partners. In 2014, she was in Whitehorse as the Aboriginal Corrections Development Officer for Correctional Services Canada - Pacific Region. In 2016, she became the Justice Coordinator, and then Justice Manager with Kwanlin Dun First Nation. She stepped down to take contract work to implement Kwanlin Dun’s Community Safety Officer program. In 2018, Gina worked with Selkirk First Nation to develop their capacity in community safety and helped develop Selkirk’s Community Safety Officer program. In 2020, she became the Community Safety Consultant/Advisor in Teslin for the Teslin Tlingit Council.1)
