Declan O’Donovan (b. 1985)
Declan O’Donovan was born in Whitehorse to parents Derm and Kathy O’Donovan, the ninth of eleven children. There was always a piano in the house and he took lessons through his childhood and teenage years. He and his brother Ryan and friends formed a blues rock band, Scotch, and achievement local fame. The four band members moved to Montreal in 2007 and parted ways in 2009. Declan continued as a solo musician and put out his [self-titled] debut CD, produced at the Old Crow Recording Studio and Daniel Janke Studio in Whitehorse, in 2012.1) The cut “Broken Sky” made him one of the most sought-after musicians in Canada.2)
Declan’s second album, Get Thee Behind the Wheel included band members Leon Powers, Darren Parris, and Paul Rigby, and debuted in September 2022. In October 2023, Declan performed songs on acoustic piano and guitar from his new LPAmok described as baroque psychedelia.3) His live performance in Dawson in April 2023 featured Ryan O’Donovan on guitar and special guest Shannon O’Donovan celebrating her latest album Pockets of Time.4)
