Ernest Pasley (1889 - 1943)

Ernest Pasley was born in Sheffield, England. He worked for three years as a fireman and labourer with the Electric Supply Department of the City of Sheffield before coming to Canada to join the Royal North-West Mounted Police (RNWMP) in 1913. He was stationed at Regina in 1913, in the Baker Lake area from 1914 through 1916, and at Regina in 1917. Pasley took his discharge at the expiration of his term of service on August 8, 1917. He served as an Ordinary Seaman with the RNCVR from 1917 to 1919 and then re-engaged with the RNWMP at Buxton, Derbyshire in 1919. He was promoted to Corporal in 1921 and was a member of the last police patrol to McPherson from Dawson that year. He purchased his discharge at Vancouver in 1928.1)

Corporal Pasley served in Dawson (1922), Rampart House (1922), Herschel Island (1923), Baillie Island (1924-1926), Edmonton (1927), Vancouver (1927-28). Following his discharge, he was employed by the Canalaska Trading Company at Cambridge Bay for a number of years.2) Pasley left the north in 1939 to live in Vancouver. He was described as a colourful character and former RCMP officer, fur trader, ship's captain, and explorer.3)
