James Patton
James Patton applied for a homestead on the Yukon River, below the mouth of Independence Creek, in 1926. He had a fur farm and by 1930 had failed in two attempts to raise muskrats. He also was trying to grow wild rice and celery with little or no success. In that year he reported six buildings, a garden and seven mink. He finally moved to Dawson after several years of farming mink and marten ranching. The homestead was cancelled in 1950.1)
