Ann Maje Raider, nee Charlie
Ann Raider was born in Ross River to Kaska parents Pete and Lena Charlie. She attended high school in Whitehorse and trained in accounting, management, group facilitation and community development. Ann Raider was the first elected chief of the Liard First Nation and served in that office from 1992 to 1998. She focused on community development, healing, and community wellness. During her term, the First Nation concluded joint ventures with private sector operations in forestry development, construction, engineering & surveying, catering, janitorial services, and fuel supplies. She was a founder in 1999 of the Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society (LAWS) that implemented a healing strategy to address the physical and sexual abuse of the residential schools and the needed healing for victims of family violence or unhealthy and toxic circumstances. In 2021, Ann was the executive director of the Liard Aboriginal Women’s Society.1)
