Clea Roberts

Clea Roberts is a poet who has been published in many of Canada’s finest literary journals. She and her husband moved from Vancouver to Whitehorse in 2003.¹⁾ Roberts achieved international recognition with her 2010 book Here is Where We Disembark. The first part of the book is about life in Yukon and northern British Columbia and the second part is based on research about women who participated in the Klondike gold rush. Roberts spent many hours reading personal letters held at the Yukon Archives. In 2013, she was busy adapting her poem Cathedral for film and finding new ways to articulate the essence of a poem.²⁾

Here is Where We Disembark was a finalist for the League of Canadian Poets’ Gerald Lampert Award for the best book of poetry in Canada and was nominated for a ReLit Award. It was translated into German and Japanese. Her book Auguries, published in 2017, was written during a time when Roberts had become a parent and lost a parent and is a reflection of our northern landscape.³⁾
