David Hughes Robertson (1936 - 2008)
Dave Robertson was born in Edmonton and was stationed in Whitehorse in 1960 as an officer with the Canadian army. On leaving the army, he co-founded Malamute Construction with two high school chums, David Dardie and Mel Olson. Times were lean so he left the business to his partners and bought into a small newspaper, the News Advertiser. By 1971, he owned the paper and had changed the name to The Yukon News. Based on his experience with successful publishing, Dave accepted a contract with the Yukon government to produce and publish the Yukon Hansard and continued in that task for over thirty years. He was survived by Barbara, his wife of forty-four years.1)
