John Peter “JP” Ross (1948 – 2008)

JP Ross was born in Winnipeg and was raised in Montreal. He graduated from McGill University with a BSc in biology. He came to the Yukon in the early 1970s to work at the United Keno Hill mine. Later he became a butterfly hunter for collectors and explored hills and mountains across the north. He was a self-taught prospector and was named Yukon Prospector of the Year in 1995 by the Yukon Prospector’s Association. Over the years, JP earned a reputation as one of Jim Robb’s Colourful Five Percent.1)

In 2018, the JP Ross property in the high-grade White Gold District was owned by White Gold Corp.2)
