Alexander Stewart
Alexander Stewart was an employee of the Hudson’s Bay Company. He married Catherine Stewart, Sarah Simon's grandmother.1)
In 1863, he was a clerk with the Hudson’s Bay Company with James Sibbeston at LaPierre House.2) That year he translated for Rev. Robert McDonald when he visited Lapierre House in June. In March 1865, McDonald baptized Alexander and Katherine’s child, Malcolm. In August 1871, McDonald visited Lapierre House and received a hearty welcome from Alexander Stewart who was now the company servant in charge of the post.3)
In August 1891, Archdeacon McDonald returned from a sabbatical to find his wife and children well although they had suffered some illness. He noted that everyone at Fort McPherson had been kind to them except for Sandy Stewart and his wife. On 9 October 1891, Sandy Stewart was found drowned in the lake behind the post. There are no other details in the journal.4)
