Carl Swanson

Carl Swanson was putting a moose carcass into his cache when a bear got into the meat. Carl was attacked and in the struggle he had his jaw broken but managed to kill the bear with a knife. He made his way back into the cabin where he was found by his partner. The partner took Carl to the hospital in Dawson, and he was sent outside to have a plate put in his skull. Swanson served in the First World War and became a sharpshooter. He returned to the Yukon at the close of the war.1)
