Elva Ruth Scott (1919 – 2003)

Elva Scott was raised on her family’s ranch in San Bernardino, California. She earned a nursing degree from the University of California and a Master of Education degree from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. In 1946, she and her husband James W. Scott moved to Homer and help to found the Homer Society of Natural History and the Homer United Methodist Church. They lived in Fairbanks in 1959-60, and in Anchorage from 1960 to 1972. They retired to Eagle in 1972 where Elva served as the mayor, council member, and as president and curator of the Eagle Historical Society. She wrote historical publications about the region and guided the restoration and interpretation of many historic buildings in the community.1)
